Our pieces are made to order and some may be fragile. A single item may require a custom‑built crate, special handling and insurance, and compliance with each country’s import rules. These factors make shipping unpredictable. The total landed cost depends on:
- Internal packaging and handling costs: labour, wood or foam crates, tape, and protective materials.
- Carrier charges and surcharges: base transportation fees, dimensional weight pricing, fuel surcharges and rural delivery fees.
- Insurance: carriers provide limited liability; additional coverage is essential for fragile or high‑value art.
- Import duties and taxes: each country has its own tariffs and VAT rates; failure to file the proper forms can delay or seize a shipment.
A flat rate at checkout would either over‑charge many customers or leave us absorbing unexpected costs. Requiring a quote ensures you see an accurate price before committing.

Shipping costs consist of both internal and external components. Internally, we cover labour to build custom crates and the protective packaging materials used; externally, carriers charge for transport, fuel surcharges, residential delivery, and other add‑ons. Insurance is advisable for fragile or high‑value shipments because carriers have limited liability. International deliveries may also incur import duties and taxes set by your country’s customs authorities.
-
Our items are hand‑crafted and often delicate. They must be secured within wooden or foam crates to protect them from shocks and vibrations during transit. The crating fee covers the materials and labour required to build a safe container and is included in your quote.
-
Yes. Carriers’ standard liability is minimal and may not cover the value of our art. We always include an insurance option in your quote for full coverage. You can choose to decline insurance, but you will assume all risk of loss or damage in transit.
-
Most countries impose customs duties, VAT or GST on imports. These fees are determined by your local customs authority. Unless explicitly stated, our quotes are Delivered at Place (DAP): you are responsible for paying duties and taxes upon delivery. We can provide an estimate based on the declared value and tariff classification, but final charges are set by your government.

We typically respond within two working days. Complex destinations or special requirements (such as door‑to‑door white‑glove service) may take longer while we liaise with our logistics partners.
-
Yes. If you have a preferred freight forwarder or carrier, let us know when adding your information to the quote in the text field "message". We will still build a protective crate and provide you with the dimensions and weight, and we will coordinate pick‑up once your carrier contacts us. You are responsible for insurance and import paperwork when arranging your own shipping.
-
We ship to most countries, but some destinations have restrictions due to customs regulations, sanctions or logistical constraints. If we cannot ship to your location, we will inform you during the quote process.
-
If you purchased insurance through us, file a claim with the carrier immediately and notify us with photos of the damage. We will assist with the claim process and work to repair or replace the item. If you declined insurance or arranged your own shipping, liability rests with you and your chosen carrier.
