Willem van Hooff.
Eindhoven, NL
Willem van Hooff is a Dutch artist and designer based in Eindhoven, known for an instinctive, raw and materially direct practice across ceramics, wood, metal and constructed forms. His objects often feel archaeological or elemental, combining primitive techniques, traditional machinery and contemporary form-making.
Born in 1992 in the Netherlands, van Hooff studied at Sint Lucas, KADK in Copenhagen and Design Academy Eindhoven, graduating in 2018 before opening his Eindhoven studio. Side Gallery describes him as a modern craftsman who gives new life to traditional materials, while his own statements frame the work through historical traditions, cultures and the contrast of modern society.
His work has been presented by Side Gallery and in contexts including Dutch Invertuals, Dutch Design Week, Salone del Mobile and Casavells. Across projects such as Core Vessels, Amphora Vessels, Ripped Ceramics, Ripped Wood and Ripped Metal, he has built a practice around imperfection, forgotten techniques, symbolic form and the emotional force of handmade matter.
For Project Materia, van Hooff brings a practice already defined by material translation, visible making and tactile experimentation. His work treats the object as something closer to a recovered artefact than a manufactured product, retaining the tension between ancient craft and contemporary collectibility.

Archive Cabinet
Matek™
An ode to the archive cabinet — a container for stories, old and new.
This cabinet is an ode to the archive cabinet. Although the need for these cabinets is slowly dying, since our digital world no longer stores documents in physical form, I always dreamed of creating one of these classic furniture pieces.
In my work, I explore a fascination with objects that hold written or carved stories within them. This cabinet is not only a container for new stories — it also carries some of mine.
